According to the EPA and other environmental service groups, different regions across America have various water pollutants depending on the underlying rock formation and the management of surface water. Texas waters predominantly contain calcium chloride and magnesium sulfate. These contaminants create hard caked deposits on your kitchen faucet, showerheads, and appliances.
The hard water deposits are annoying, but the worst contaminants in the water can compromise our health when consumed for a long time. Chromium 6, arsenic, total trihalomethane (chloroform), and radium (a radioactive element) can be found in water systems around the country.
Each city is required by law to inform the public of the quality of the public water system. Each year on June 1st every local water district releases the Consumer Confidential Report (CCR) that details the contaminants in their system. Very few people review the report and know what contaminants are in their water.
